Non nutritive feeding

Ryan continues to improve everyday. She is currently on a nasal cannula to provide her the additional O2 that she needs. We hope to have her weened off of the O2 before we take her home. Also, Michelle will begin attempting to feed her for the first time today. This will be yet another test for Ryan. We will be able to see how well Ryan can latch and also maintain her breathing while sucking and swallowing. Please continue to keep us in your prayers. Jared

  2. Jared & Michelle, We saw you in the hallway the other night but you were to far away to get your attention. We have been thinking and praying for you a lot lately. The 1st time to the breast is super exciting and also nerve racking, hoping all hopes well & doing something new for the 1st time that you want so much to go well. Just try to relax & enjoy the moment as much as you can. The more you relax the more she will also feel relaxed and be more likely to be successful. Also don't put all your hopes in this 1st time, remember it is new for both of you & over time ease will set in. It was awkward, exciting, nerve-racking, and exhilarating all at the same time for our 1st time, but then I got so excited about it that I pushed her a little too hard and then she got sick so we haven't been able to do it since but I am being patient. I pray Michelle and Ryan are able to get the most out of it and share a beautiful moment together, that it confirms Ryan's strength, coordination, and comforts her to be so close to her mama. Our hearts are with you.

  3. Oh and, if you haven't done "skin to skin" or "kangaroo care" be sure to ask the nurses if you can do that with Ryan. They help you hold her on your chest skin to skin (mom or dad). It really helps comfort and sooth Ryan, helping her heal and grow faster, and it is an amazing experience for both parents, and it also helps mom's milk come in too! I hope you get to experience that with her soon!! Our prayers remain with you!
